How did coffee travel around the world?

A small bean with an extraordinary global journey.

Many adults begin their morning with a cup of coffee. But coffee does not start in a cup. It comes from a plant.

The coffee plant grows fruit. Inside the fruit are seeds, which people often call coffee beans. Workers collect the fruit and take out the seeds. The seeds are dried and heated until they turn brown.

People then break the roasted beans into small pieces and mix them with hot water to make coffee.

Coffee has a long history. The plant comes from Africa, especially the area that is now Ethiopia. Over time, coffee drinking spread to other parts of the world.

Today, cafés are popular meeting places in many countries. Some people drink coffee with milk, while others prefer it black.

It is interesting to think that a drink found in cities around the world begins with a small seed inside a fruit.
