The smallest post office
Un pequeño correo conecta a todo un pueblo.
The village post office occupies a room scarcely larger than a kitchen. For Mila, it has always been a place where adults collect parcels and complain about the weather. That changes when she watches an elderly neighbour carefully address a letter to her sister overseas. Mila asks why anyone would wait days for a message that could be sent instantly. Mr. Lee, the postmaster, explains that communication is not always about speed. Some people value a physical letter because they can hold it, save it and return to it later. Intrigued, Mila writes to her cousin, who has recently moved away. Instead of sending a quick message, she describes ordinary village life in detail: the cat outside the bakery, the new playground and the tree that lost a branch during a storm. Mr. Lee helps her check the address before placing the envelope in the outgoing mail. Mila waits impatiently for a reply. When it arrives, she finds a drawing of her cousin's dog and a funny account of his first day at a new school. Their exchange becomes a weekly habit. Although they still talk online, the letters encourage them to notice details they might otherwise forget. Mila begins to understand why the post office matters beyond delivering packages. In a village where services are gradually disappearing, it remains a shared space that helps people maintain relationships across distance.
