The Last Seed

Una niña intenta salvar una flor del jardín.

Eva notices immediately when the yellow flower beside the school wall disappears. Workers have cleared the area to build a path, and the garden suddenly feels less colourful. Her teacher proposes an experiment: can the class grow a replacement from the seeds left in the dry flower head? They collect several seeds and plant them in separate pots. The children discuss what plants need: water, light, air and suitable temperatures. Eva places her pot by a sunny window and records how often she waters it. After ten days without visible change, she begins to lose hope. Her teacher explains that germination happens below the soil before the first shoot appears. Soon a tiny stem pushes through the surface. Eva measures it every few days and notices how quickly the leaves develop. Not every pot produces a plant. The class compares their results and considers possible reasons, including seed quality and differences in watering. Rather than treating the unsuccessful pots as failures, the teacher encourages them to learn from the observations. Once the strongest plants are ready, the children create a new flower bed away from the path. They choose a position that receives enough sunlight and agree on a watering schedule. Eva is proud of the flowers, but she values something else too: the experience has shown her that environmental care is often a series of small, practical decisions rather than one dramatic action.
