The Blue Door
Una puerta azul guarda un secreto amable.
Anna has walked past the house with the blue door for years without meeting its owner. Its curtains are usually closed, and the garden seems forgotten. When a notice asking for help finding a missing cat appears, she finally has a reason to pay attention. The cat, Snow, is white with a dark mark on one ear. Anna searches nearby gardens and asks neighbours whether they have seen him. Her first attempts are unsuccessful, but on her way home she hears a soft meow from behind some storage boxes. Rather than chasing the frightened animal, Anna sits a short distance away and waits. Eventually Snow steps forward, allowing her to check the mark on his ear. She contacts the number on the notice, and the owner comes outside almost immediately. Mrs Bell is relieved. She admits that she rarely leaves the house and has found it difficult to meet new people since her husband died. Anna and her mother visit later that week, bringing biscuits and a small plant for the garden. Over tea, Mrs Bell describes how the street looked decades ago. Anna discovers that the apparently silent house is full of memories. Soon the garden begins to change, and Mrs Bell starts greeting people from her doorway. Anna realises that the most important thing she found was not only a lost cat, but also a new friendship.
