A day in ancient Rome

From crowded streets to public baths, everyday life was surprisingly busy.

Imagine living in Rome almost two thousand years ago. There are busy streets, shops, and many people, but no cars or phones.

Lucius is a young boy. In the morning, he eats bread and goes to the market with his mother. They pass people selling fish, fruit, and clothes. They also see workers carrying heavy things through the streets.

Many people in Rome get water from public places. Some rich families have large homes with water inside, but many other families live in small rooms.

Life is different for children too. Some go to school and learn to read. Others spend much of their day helping their families work.

In the evening, Lucius returns home for a simple meal. He talks with his family and gets ready to sleep. Rome is part of ancient history for us. For Lucius, it is simply the city where he lives.

Lucius goes to a busy market. He sees bread, fruit and people selling things. Later, he walks past a big place where people can wash. Life in Rome is not like life today.
