The letter across the river

Dos amigos encuentran una manera de seguir hablando.

When repairs force the old river bridge to close, Lena and Max lose the easy afternoon visits that have been part of their friendship for years. They still see each other at school, but they miss the small conversations they used to have on the way home. Lena has recently adopted a puppy, and she is eager to introduce him to Max. Since they cannot arrange a visit, her mother suggests an old-fashioned solution: a handwritten letter. Lena includes a drawing of the puppy carrying one of her shoes. Max replies with a sketch of his cat asleep in a box. What begins as a practical way to share news soon develops into a creative exchange. The friends invent short puzzles, recommend books and describe things they might have forgotten to mention during a phone call. They discover that choosing the right words takes time, but it also helps them notice details. A month later, the bridge reopens. Max crosses it to meet the puppy, and the friends spend an afternoon together by the river. Lena assumes their letters will now stop, until Max gives her a sealed envelope before leaving. Inside is a question: “What should we write about next?” Lena laughs and starts planning her answer. The closed bridge caused an inconvenience, but it also helped the friends find a new way to stay close.
