A ticket to the wrong city

Maya's first solo train journey begins with a surprisingly ordinary mistake. At a crowded station, she glances at the departure board, notices the time printed on her ticket and boards the train beside her without checking its destination. She has barely opened her book when a conductor asks to see her ticket. After a brief pause, he explains that the train is heading in the opposite direction. Fortunately, it has not departed, and her correct service is waiting on another platform. Maya's first reaction is embarrassment. She worries that everyone around her has noticed. The conductor, however, remains calm and gives her clear directions. She thanks him, picks up her bag and returns to the concourse. Rather than rushing straight onto the next train, she stops to compare the destination, service number and platform with the information on her ticket. The details finally match. Once seated, she messages her cousin and admits what happened. The countryside gradually replaces the busy station outside her window. Maya considers how easily she had confused recognising one familiar detail with checking the whole situation. Her cousin is amused by the story but impressed that Maya solved the problem independently. By the end of the day, Maya feels more confident about travelling, not because she made no mistakes, but because she learned how to respond to one.
