The light on the island
Un faro, una tormenta y una decisión valiente.
On a small island, the lighthouse is more than a familiar building to Anna: it is a reminder that the sea can change quickly. Her father maintains the light, which gives passing vessels a recognisable signal near a dangerous stretch of coastline. One autumn evening, strong winds arrive earlier than expected. While watching the waves, Anna notices a fishing boat travelling unusually close to the rocks. Its movements seem uncertain, and the rain is getting heavier. Rather than rushing outside, she calls her father. He observes the vessel through binoculars and reports its position to the coast guard. They cannot know exactly what has happened aboard, so they avoid guessing and provide only what they can see. A rescue crew eventually reaches the boat. From the lighthouse, Anna watches the two vessels turn towards the sheltered harbour. The danger appears to have passed, but she waits until her father receives confirmation that the fishermen are safe. The next day, Anna meets one of the fishermen. He explains that poor visibility made it difficult to judge their distance from shore. Anna understands that the lighthouse did not perform the rescue on its own. Its signal, her observation and the emergency crew's response all played a part.
